Title says it all, I need help, I've had an x box 360 for about 3+ years, never had a problem with it until today. I just went to start a new campaign in Call of Duty World at War on veteran difficulty. I was going through the preview video before the first mission "Semper Fi" i believe is the name for it. Just when it entered the title screen, black screen with just the title written on it, when all of a sudden black and white blocks appeared. It made the noise of a tv when you lose your signal and the blocks kind of reminded me of it. No matter what button I hit on my controller nothing changed. When I went to go and hit the power button on the xbox 3 of the four controller buttons (part of the ring, where blinking red. I hit the power button anyway and now when I hit the power on the xbox or holding down the controller power button the xbox begins to turn on then after about 30-40 seconds the red dots come back.
I wanted to know if this was the "ring of death" problem Ive heard about and or if not, what is my problem? Hopefully someone here will know I do plan on calling microsoft but for now I hope to find some luck here.

Usually the red ring of death is a solid ring. I've never heard much about the dots you're getting, but I'd call them and find out what's going on. They'll probably just have you send it in and they'll give you a brand new one since yours is fairly old.

I don't think they will due to his warranty being up after 3 years, call them and ask for sure.

Yeah, but if I remember correctly, if you got an xbox within the first year and you get the red ring of death, they'll replace it for free. Not 100% on that, but I think that's what I remember hearing.

the flashing red ring means bad signal strength or internal errors
happens after 2 years on the xbox arcarde (standard cheapest version) i called tech support and they said i either had a broken cable or i needed something replaced inside i.e. the laser or the motherboard
couple of questions: do you have ****roaches or any other lil bugs livin inside your xbox?
is it an xbox pro or elite?
have you checked all the cables and connections?
is the disc scratched?
if its none of these and you have the shitty cheap non silver cd draw version. your gonna need a new Xbox
if its a pro or elite or the halo special edition call tech support and tell them
oh and youve played the game before right? does it load slow compared to every other game or slow like OW on Double DC days?

these kids are dumb, your xbox is always under a warrenty with the comapny microsoft...
if you have the ring of death... you have to call their life help and ask them what to do, your sopose to send in ur xbox and they send you it either fixed or another...
i believe you have the ring of death... the xbox shouldn't have a red ring for any other reason... if you bought urs 3 years ago, you should be happy it lasted this long... i tihnk actually 3 years ago was the time that they had the bad batch of 360's that last near a year or less lol...

correction its the RROD
Red Ring Of Death
And those posts about phoning microsoft is true.
If your xbox was one of the original batches then it is a internal error RROD
Microsoft took one of the biggest hits because of this batch. They offered anyone with a xbox within certain batches that RROD an unconditional warranty.
Just phone them they'll repair it. All 11 of my friends who bought an xbox launch day just over a year and a half in all of them got the RROD and got replacements

first replacement i belive is free and after that its like a 50$ fee or something, its... meh, simply i put it this way... any gaming system that advanced will face some sort of problems, rather its your pc, or its your xbox... in the end if you want to play some of the best games out there, its worth dealing with... then again... i my self (if i had the money) would switch to PS3 when the next cod game comes out, maily because i prefered my xbox because of halo, and now i realize that halos a game for kids who suck at 1st person shooters ;)
