Something I whipped up awhile ago - I had to shorten the avatar slightly to fit the size requirements of the forums, though.
Wasn't too complicated a process, mostly some layer masking techniques.
Edit: The man pictured is O'sensei Oshiba for anyone interested.

I like it but you should put red on the other sides of the border in the av. looks weird with only 2 sides red lol. and the sig is nice.

The full version has red on all 4 sides - Due to stupid small size limitations on the forums I had to cut it down - I just was lazy and physically cropped the side in paint without changing the border.

i guess its alright, not used to seeing sigs like that, looks like you just put two pics and masked and erased half of each of them,..

The background is actually one picture otherwise the masking would have been much much easier.

so you just put a background on an empty canvas?

I actually did this about 4 years ago (for another forum) so I don't remember the entirety but I took 3 pictures. 2 of the man in the picture and on of the actual background. Then I masked around the 2 photos and used a very slight blur effect to fix any sharp objects I created with the masking processes. Finally the border.
Like I said very simply and to the point - Can't imagine it taking more then 10 minutes.
