View Full Version : The "I have a suggestion" Thread

Hello,

So now that I have been playing awhile, I'd like to make a few suggestions on the most common things that irk me, some have probably been suggested before, but it never hurts to be reminded (since obviously they haven't been changed yet). - Others feel free to add yours below!

1. Faster spawning bosses - I cannot reiterate this enough. There is no reason other than to create a very sloppy and lazy timesink, to have your players waiting around for many many hours for a boss to spawn. Of course there are varying degrees of time people SHOULD need to wait for certain bosses, example:

a) Quest bosses : 5 to 15minutes (5minutes for the ones that drop nothing of significance, and 15 for those that might drop a minor rune). Because as the game gets more popular, or even just for the lower level zones that are constantly populated, it is never fun to be sitting around for 6 or 7hrs (or in some cases DAYS) waiting for a boss to spawn.

b) Major Rune Bosses : No longer than 30minutes - it's really not needed. The drop rate on some of these runes is so abysmal already, that making people wait so long is like another slap in the face.

c) Rare Rune Bosses : No longer than 1 hour - again, same thing as the Major rune bosses with the rarity in the drop rates. At least give us the illusion that we have a chance to get this rune without having to wait around for 2 days to even see it.

2. More creative timesinks. No I am not talking about crafting. I despise crafting .. with a passion. I would however like to see other things, perhaps something like a "survival mode" dungeon that is just packed with monsters ... basically one big long twisting hallway with monsters that increase in difficulty around each bend - perhaps at the end could be mana orb, a rare treasure chest that random runes could pop out of - a nifty place to throw in some interesting bosses - in any case it would be an extremely easy zone to build and would be highly entertaining to try to make it to the end. I would suggest however that once you clear it - you have 30 seconds to leave or it teleports you out so people can't just camp the end. Would defeat the entire purpose of the place imho.

3. More gladiator type quests - or my gladiator arena type idea that you could wager items in and get various other rewards back in return depending on what you bet, or whom you bet with (ie: players or monsters).

4. Lighting - My god my eyes --- I am seriously going to go blind trying to see in some places in the game. Thankfully one of the places got ALOT better (the crypt) - someone was very kind and added torches, which makes such a huge impact that the enjoyment factor of that place shot up about 200 fold. There are a number of serious problem areas though:

a) Blackspawn - this place is a walking deathtrap as it is - having to do it entirely in the dark makes it 200x worse.

b) Any type of hut / house / building / etc - they all have ZERO lights.

c) Dense forests - such as the start of the skyzzy zone with the treants are. Very very dark there, so dark in fact that you almost have to walk through hitting tab to see the treants.

5. Gambling - who doesn't love to gamble. Perhaps we could have a casino type of place added. Something keeping with the theme could be a den of thieves that you would need to do a bunch of quests in order to gain access to (something like assassinating various NPCs in the towns for the "guild" could be most entertaining!).

6. When "key" NPCs are involved in a quest (such as an escort) have a dummy take its place so we don't have to keep hearing "where is this npc!" or "where has so and so gone?" all day please. Then when the escort quest is done, have the npc just vanish (ie: suicide).

7. I'd love to see more instances. Places with a little more depth to them than room, hallway , slightly bigger room, another hallway, end boss would be super!. The ones we have right now are cool, but they are just too small imho. Personally I like the setup of the crypt far better than I do blackspawn, it's more how a instance should flow - but I would like to see far more expansive places to explore.

8. Rune locater Npc - Why do the runes vanish when the NPC thinks your out of the level range?. This so very annoying. Esp. since it takes so long to even find some of these bosses and track down the runes. Often times you can be as much as 20 levels over and still not have found the boss! - granted you probably have skipped over that and possibly gotten a higher level rune by that time, but some people would like to have a "complete" set, or even possibly it would be nice just be able to look it up for future alts, friends, guildies, etc. I really see no reason why the list can't be "complete" as you level up, instead of getting smaller.

9. Why is diamond city so huge? are all those houses that are empty going to be used for player housing at some point in time? if not it would be cool if something would be done to justify the size of that city.

10. One of the coolest things I have ever done in any MMO was a quest to complete sets of armor or weapons that you could tailor yourself to be very specific. An example would be thus:

> You are a caster - so you want INT, MYST, STAM - so you have the quest to complete the "so so armor set" - you need to kill X mob in this area, X mob in that area, and the following bosses W, Y and Z.

These mobs all have a chance at dropping a piece of material that will allow you to piece together your custom armor.

You then take all the materials back to the quest npc and he will fashion each piece for you, depending on the amount of supplies you managed to gather.

These types of quests are always very cool, since they allow you to basically choose your own reward, instead of having something thrust upon you that could very well be utterly useless to you.

It also gives the player a goal, and a very real feeling of accomplishment onces it been completed.

11. Fashion sense ... Now, I don't know about anyone else but wow ... alot of the stuff we wear in game just looks horrendous. Some of the plate armor looks alright, but the robes are fairly plain and the leather armor - my eyes - the horror!

If it's not possible to basically redraw alot of this stuff and make it look far better, than could it be possible to add a couple of new slots to our equipment screen so we could wear some fashion type clothes so at the very least we have the illusion of looking decent please?

12. Since I am on the topic of equipment ... I would love to see more variety in the equipment the various levels get. It seems basically for the first 30 levels or so, everyone is wearing more or less the exact same items. It starts to get better in the late 30's at least.

Perhaps adding the more common green type of drops to normal monsters in a wider variety, would be a start and leaving the bosses for various "sets" that you could complete to get various bonuses from when you are wearing multiple pieces. (and no this is not a new idea, it's been around since all the online games were text based).

13. I'd like to see more options in the options menu. Such as mouse speed, a gamma setting, various other abilities to tweak various video settings further.

14. A more detailed character creation. Different faces, hair colors, more hair styles, etc .. helps to let people stand out abit, so we aren't all basically carbon copies of one another.

15. NPCs that allow you to change hairstyles, faces, tattoos maybe? - etc -

16. Some Dev sponsored events! - These could be integrated into the storyline even to be even cooler!. Some ideas could include:

a) Defending various towns from massive hordes of invading creatures
b) Being teleported to do battle with the armies leaders on their own plane - a perilous undertaking!
c) Easter egg hunts - being able to find special goodies on random monsters to be turned in for various rewards! (like maybe a ticket, that when used allows you to spawn a boss of your choice! - or gives a set of GM buffs!)

Anything really, it helps bring the community and the staff closer together, and everyone should be able to take part in these events in some fashion so it's not just aimed at certain select level ranges.

Phew, I think thats enough for now!

I agree with almost everything elecjester, except that I don't have the problem of areas being too dark. Everything is lit almost perfectly for me, nothing too dark and nothing too light. Styzzy is just fine; a nice shade of green.

I especially agree with the respawn of bosses. With this amount of players and the abysmally low drop rate, they need a large respawn increase. Does anyone even have fireball from Volrak? And that's a low level rune. It took me 8 kills of Miak to get Touch Of Flame, and he doesn't spawn all that often. It took 6 kills of Julian The Strategist, over the course of 5 days (since I work). That's simply logging in and standing there killing his placeholder over and over for 5 days, getting Julian once in a while and becoming very frustrated that he yet again didn't drop what I was looking for.

Forget about Volrak. I spent nearly 24 hours camping him. He spawned twice that whole time, and didn't drop a rune. Completing his quest wasn't worth it either btw :)

I played classic Everquest so I know what camping for long hours is like. It sucks. Royally sucks. It's a complete waste of time. That's one of the things EQ got wrong.

I'm gonna add another suggestion: What about random items similar to Diablo 2? In D2 you had your rares, sets, uniques etc. but you also had a nearly infinite amount of random items, some of which wound up very good. We have a lot of different stats and modifiers to choose from in CoP, so I bet a similar system would work.

EDIT: Oh, allow us to see ALL runes from the Rune Diviner too like elec said. It's so annoying.

Perhaps Volrack the Foul has been the most interesting of all of the quests, since I think I have only killed him once and I have Fireball.
I did not see him before that nor have I seen him since. Btw I was looking for Maik at the time and completing the Foul quest turned out to be a bonus.

I am looking forward to finding Blister for the Superior Fireball. As I understand he only spawns when a (?) Frigid Guardian (?) spawns and then not every time.

There are several "bosses" in the Tulorn zone that I have only seen once ie Rancid, and Shaman Xia (?)
At least the others I have managed to see more than once and although I have manage to kill them, only Ganglord Sid and Draktor Sharpeye (?) provided a rune on the second try. Istill have nothing from Rancid, so I check there once in a while. I have seen others camping the spawning area for a chance to get whatever runes they drop. In the case of Sharpeye most of the campers already seem to have Flame Wave, so it must be either for a friend, guild member, or to sell. I was told that Sharpeye spawns four hours after he was last killed, I have no idea if this is true or not, but seems about right.

I agree it would be nice if the "bosses" dropped more often, perhaps the rune hunters would move on to other zones. I still do not understand "World Drop" and some information on this would be nice. Does it mean that more than one npc drops those runes or just specific generic npc's?

I would love to be able to adjust the gamma on my monitor when I enter BlackSpawn since I only manage to see about half of the npc's there. I die alot in BlackSpawn.

Glad someone else thinks this way also.

hrm, it's horribly dark for me .... but *shrug* doesn't change the fact that the interiors of this game are in need in need of some serious lighting.

I don't know why you see it so dark, Blackspawn to me seems to be lit too well and looks cartoonish, same goes for the crypt and other buildings.

my eyes are very sensitive to light, and I so I had my brightness turned way down on my monitor .. turning it way up helped and I can see better now - but everytime I exit the game i have to turn it back down because everything else it way way too bright

Why increase boss spawn time? It's easy enough as it is, if people have to wait alittle longer for runes big deal. The pace this game is going is much too fast already, ffs beta was just released and already we'll have lvl50's very very soon.. end game till new zones are out.. so yeah i def don't agree. Infact i would say INCREASING SPAWN TIME INTERVALS would be much better for the life of the game. Sure.. you downloaded cop a few weeks ago.. can't get everything at once now can you? Blah blah blah.. more suggestions after this one to make things faster.. no, that isn't a good idea at all. If they change boss spawns i quit.. lol if you think it sucks now wait until you get bigger and go to zhul where something spawns once a day.. thats just how it goes, and not everyone is going to get this loot right away, nor would we want them too.

The dark issues you have are you.. blackspawn, forests, etc seem fine to me, i have no lighting issues whatsoever. Gamma thing you suggested would fix that for you i suppose, just not something everyone needs.

They do plan on making chars have more features, quite a task at hand to implement atm.

Events will occur, we seen the first one in beta.

I would like to have a Gamma adjustable game option.
It would make it easier have an ingame adjustment that i can set and forget. I wouldn't need to reset the gamma or brightness each time I go to log into or out of CoP.

i have this problem alot sence i started to use a flat screen monitor. i have everything turned up yet i still cant see anything in certain areas (blackspawn for example). for the most part it doesnt bother me but i would like to see atleast dim lighting in these areas so i can see a bit better...i really dont want to have to switch between my old monitor and my flat screen just to play COP correctly. seeing as alot of people are going to the flat screens now a days it would be nice to have a bit more lighting for the people who have this problem
