i was listening to a talk show today and there was something that made me mad. the radio talk show host said that the ability to reason seperate us from the animals but i beg to differ.
Reason 1: i forget her name but there was a famous women who observed primates in africa. she noticed that monkeys in one area would bury thier bananas. but this is the weird part the monkeies would wash the dirt of them later with out being trained.

Reason 2: Dogs they can be trained but i realize there's a difference between sit= treat and reasoning. But Here is my reason my old dog buster (god rest his soul he had a stroke 2 febuaries ago becuz of the bad food that was being recalled.) but he tuaght himself scrach a door and masters will open it.

Reason 3: my current dogs fenway and yawkey hate thunder storms, yesterday it was getting cloudy in my area and Yawkey looked at the sky saw the clouds and he had the same look on his face as would a human child when trying to make a connection.

Reason 4: the most dangerous game, a great short story, best i've every read. the protangonist of the story was driven to basic insticts and still could think rationaly enough to make traps kill back and sneak into the antagonists house and kill the antagonist.

Hm, very good points, Most Dangerous Game- great story i might add.

My Cat- E.T. (Extra Toes, 6 toes on each paw) also was a very interesting cat. We ended up putting him to sleep because he got bone cancer in a leg and could barely walk and was in a ton of pain, also had a urinary infection that made him pee everywhere uncontrollably.

Anyways, i was outside playing (i was little then), and E.T. was outside doing whatever until i saw him walk up to the road. This cat looked BOTH WAYS before crossing the street. Most amazing thing Ive ever seen out of an ordinary animal not trained to do anything. He also would come running every time we used the can opener. He lived to be about 20 years old.

the road thing very interesting thank you for sharing. And the can opener that is also interesting about all animals that do similar things, but i think it is developed instict becuase he thinks oo that thing means food is acoming. my dogs run to my mom when she starts cooking.

lol yea, i found that to be more instinct also, but looking both ways was amazing.

I had a cat that I heard saying boing at a ball it bounced over and over. Freaked me right out, because I was alone at the time, and thought there was a ghost or something in my house. :D

i also just remembered that my old dog buster had a maneuver that we called pulling a jake cuz thats who buster pulled it on. so when he scratched a door it meant "let me out" so he scratched a door while my brother was eating buster waited for my brother to come to the door then he darted for the unguarded food.

orangatans can recognise themselzes in the mirror.

reseachers have put banana paste on top of an orangatans head then placed a mirror next to them. they recognised themselves as they went to clean their own head.

most other animals cant do this. they see the image in the mirror as a different animal. Placing mirrors in a pen is a solution some zoo keepers use if a certain animal gets too lonely.

Some great apes that learn to play on the computers can actually put together puzzles on the computers much faster then humans, and at the same time get addicted to the computers... Or atleast one (forget what kind of great ape it was) in japan was like that. They're very smart animals as are dolphins. Dolphins and humans go through the same emotions when learning new things. If I remember correctly it is trying --> frustration --> trying again --> happyness (when you finally get it right) and they remember to do it the next time.

But, we are far superior to anything else on this earth. Not because we have guns or anything, but because we're actually able to sit here and judge these animals. While great apes are very smart as are dolphins I dont think they are having the same conversation with other apes/dolphins 10000 miles away. But, who knows.

and eh, all animals are rational just because if they weren't they'd die. Even a little rat will be rational enough to not sit right infront of your face... It'll run past as quick as possible then hide.

What separates man from animals is the human brain, or, specifically one pervasive idea contained in a bunch of them: A line in the creation myth that says Adam was given dominion over the beast of the field and the birds of the air by God.

Leaf-cutter ants have been building cities with millions of inhabitants and practicing horticulture (they collect leaf cuttings and then use them to grow mold, which they eat) for FORTY MILLION YEARS. Other ant species practice animal husbandry, shepherding around herds of aphids, which they then milk. ANTS!

We are only separate because we wrongly think we are. Buddhists and Hindus do not assume that we are above the other life on the planet, and neither do I. To do so is arrogant and ignorant, two of humanity's greatest weaknesses.

Reason 2: we open the door cause its annoying.

Reason 3: animals don't like loud noises

Reason 4: its a story
