validate a checking account?

how long does it take to receive the "two small deposits" into my checking to validate it? also, if i wanted to do a small order of points, like 20$ right now, would i waste the double point offer that comes with validating the account? or would i be able to order points now, then when i validate my checking, make a big purchase and have those points doubled? i just want to make sure i dont waste the offer on a small purchase
