View Full Version : Illegal Outwar Names

Ok, to begin with, let me give you an example of what I'll be discussing.
http://rancid.outwar.com/crew_profile.php?id=4403
The crew name is fine, but the member's names on the other hand is what I'll be targeting.
The names in this crew are ridiculous, I'm not stupid either, I know that these are not the only blatantly illegal names in Outwar, but it serves it's purpose as an example.
Over the years, I've seen many such names, and even crew names fitting this trend. It's time for this to be taken care of, seeing as many young people play this game, and even if they already know worse things, it's still not good to shove it in their faces. I personally have a neighbor who plays on my account when he comes over, and he's only 10 years old. If his parents were to see names like that, they would flip.
I understand the task of weeding out these names can be daunting, and for every 1 that is renamed or deleted, 2 more spring up in their place. That isn't a valid excuse though, I believe it's high time someone enforced the rules, and cleaned this place up a bit.
My suggestions would be, accounts that are obviously intentional, like the accounts in that crew, be deleted outright, and the IP flagged for further investigations down the road. If that IP is caught repeating that, that the RGA's involved, and the IP's involved, be banned.
Accounts that might teeter on the edge of being against the rules should be given an option to rename, free of charge.
As stated above, I realize this is a daunting task, and have thought of a few ways to make it easier. Perhaps one way, would be to have someone who's sole responsibility is tracking down, and weeding out the guilty parties.
A second way would be to have a spot in the forums, for each server, to report crews or characters in violation of these rules, so that once a week, or once a month, said person could go through and take action depending on the results.
Both ways could be used in conjunction with each other for speedier results.
I know that some of you could care less, and some of you might even lash out at this post, but what if it were your children? Or what if the name targeted you in some fashion?
So please, think about my post, and respond accordingly, I'd love for things to finally clear up a bit.

I agree with this post. Alot of Outwar names are targeted at people in one form or another and alot of names are innappropriate. Many young children/young adults play this game and have to see the things in peoples names, pictures, profiles, etc.

whoa! those are some nasty names in that crew... Whoever made em has a very strange sense of humor, there is nothing funny and are more so offending.. Strict action should be taken, it hurts not only younger gamers but also outwar's credibility...

I would say they probably already have enough on their list of things to do
but what if it were your children?
Children should be their parents responsibility not Outwars ... It's not like they don't try .... There are word filters on everything
i dont see anything wrong with any of them names at all, and the kid excuse is getting soo boring now if they are online they have access to a lot worse than a few names

I'll be honest, I have some multi names that are similar to the ones in that crew. Some of them are mine in that crew too, but probably the ones being viewed as less offensive since I only have a couple in that crew. When I made them, I was under the impression we could still delete names after making them, but obviously come to find out that's not the case. I'm not going to try justifying naming my multis that because I can understand the concern, but they should have never been able to be named what they are if they are "illegal" when considering the Terms of Service (which they are). Outwar does filter out some words from being used in the creation of names, but most of them are pertaining to Outwar itself and not vulgar language.
I'd be happy to comply with whatever action Outwar would decide to take, but immediate deletion of the accounts would be a tad unfair when Outwar allows (when I say allow, I mean the name generation does not stop it) those names to be made in the first place.

I would actually love to see something done about a lot of those names and others that people make for some odd reason. The point of the game is to play and have fun not make the worst names possible and be proud to have them.
I admit I have seen much worse which is sad and outwar ended up removing/changing them but I do think they need to add a quicker way to be able to do so like forums/ have a person check weekly by typing in like 3-4 bad words into the attack box and see how much random names pops up with it.
Glad to see someone trying to help clean it up some :)

I am all for the clean up. I am tired of seeing names that are well beyond the term vulgar. I see f**k this and that and wh**e that and that among other things from time to time and it simply makes me blink, and then there are the people who try to skirt things by using a 4 in place of an A and a 3 in place of an E just to avoid being caught or looked at perhaps for these things.
I most certainly hope that something is done about the issue.

STF-Special Task Force!
Have a STF to take action against these things. Have them make a list for periods of a month and at the end of the month take care of it all by changing there name or deleting the characters. Then have a report every month saying how many people they caught and fixed.
"I'd be happy to comply with whatever action Outwar would decide to take, but immediate deletion of the accounts would be a tad unfair when Outwar allows (when I say allow, I mean the name generation does not stop it) those names to be made in the first place"
well when people use random other letters/numbers/symbols to take the place of the blocked words how is that legal, more so just finding a way around it

Filter out the alternative names as well that use the numbers? If they filter out a vulgarity, they could filter out the names to get around the filter as well.

lmmfao your a tool brandon. If outwar didn't want it they wouldnt have allowed it. You walk around just because your in the big bad brother hood your the top dog that needs some sort of self gratifcation, guess what? My names get more respect than yours does, deal with it. I find it funny you have nothing better to do than make a big deal about it. Id change them at ourwars request. But to delete them? Oh you would like that you smug ego manic. I know why you hate them, it takes that little attention away from your "omg look at me account". The things you and your crew do are worse than my names, oh shit I said it.

This is a game about killing things, going into chats and talkin shit to eachother, What it has come to be today, is so much less fun than what it was in round 4, 5, 6, and 7, that was when it was fun, when wars were ok, and to leave your crew and join someones else was fine, it was part of your own strategy, dont sit and complain and just hit that guy, start a war or something, the server is completely stuck on the same 5 crews, lets get somethin goin, some Lax Vs Kyosuke shit, or somethin that doesnt make it some pokemon of fricken Online Games. Thats My Point, Peace

I agree with the people that have said we should deffinetly be targeting this stuff ahead of ARJ's and DCAA's. I mean, cmon people these names are ruining the game for everyone! If we do not get rid of these names soon, the whole of outwar will be effected dramatically and there will be no point whatsoever in playing from then on.
Kids, grow up and get over it, or GTFO, please.

exactly, this game targets people old enough to buy points anyway. "ooo ooo a kittens killed every time a questionable name is made" Brandon and all Brandon fanboys need a life. Worry about your own names and game play, let others worry about theirs. Thats all.

The real question becomes, why is Brandon playing with a 10 year old kid? I'm assuming he's around 18 years old...

It's awfully easy to assume things isn't it? To be honest with you, I could care less who's name gets more respect than who's. Also, why would you immediately get so defensive? Calling me names, and trying to demean me with insults will get you nowhere. This topic is not about your personal jealousy or anger towards me, this is a legitimate problem which every person with one ounce of maturity can agree with.

You must not have read the statement properly, in my original message I alluded to the fact that a new way of taking care of these needs to be implemented. Which would mean nobody has to be taken away from their hunt for cheaters.

Again, childish behavior. You begin by calling me names? As for playing this game, why not just abide by the rules instead of jumping on a game, creating tons of ridiculous character names, then getting defensive when someone wants to do something about it. Sure, it's easy to toss all of this upon a Parent, although the last time I checked, it was impossible for 1-2 people to be everywhere, controlling everything at once. All I was asking was for Outwar to lend a helping hand, by enforcing their own rules and guidelines, or at least to help others enforce it for them.
Also, "a game to get outta the real world", I completely agree, and there are too many childish people in the real world, we don't need their ilk cluttering up the internet too.

Unfortunately, your method on worrying about your own, and letting other worry about theirs seems to be failing, or there wouldn't be a need for this.

Wow, congratulations on being another in a long series of worthless posts. I feel bad for whomever finds this type of thing "clever". I'll answer your immaturity though, just for kicks.
I'm actually 25 years old, and happen to be best friends with my neighbor, who has a child. Every now and then, they will come over, and I'll let their son play on my computer while my friend and I talk. Seeing how fun Outwar can be for me, and knowing how many young people actually do play this game, I introduced him to it.
That make you feel better?
