Continuing from offtopic thread in Brainstorm Central
x box 360 sucks big time
When a manufacture has to buy up all the developers around to stop its competitors it show how much a real threat they are, as that’s all x box does and even doing that ps3 has the better games than the 360Which of course is why a good majority of Sony exclusive developers went multi-system with there games. . Oh wait, that was to cover there butts because they couldn't make a decent profit off the low ps3 ownership model.
I really dont want this to turn into a argument but I highly doubt that there are more xbox live subscriptions then ps3 owners.Obviously the numbers are just a ballpark figure but. . .
According to Sony they have sold 10.5 million ps3's (this obviously is a lower number, however, because we're talking about ps3 owners. . Not ps3's sitting in a retail department store).
According to major marketing/gaming firms in America, Europe, Austrlia and Japan approximatly 7.7 million systems sold worldwide.
According to Microsoft xbox live growth is as followed:
2004: 1 million subscribers
August 2007: 7.1 million subscribers
Currently: 10 million subscribers.
So in conclusion. . .According to trusting both big companies the Xbox Live subscription has just about the same amount of subscribers as there are sold ps3s.
Also, Gage, sales for the ps3 are still 3rd place out of all 3 systems and the only month that ps3 surpassed the monthly sales of the Xbox360 (which is a year older) was January 2008 when, beforehand, Microsoft declared a shortage of production.
Note: Numbers are as of January 2008. I can't find anything more recent.
Note2: The numbers for Xbox Live subscribers ONLY take into account Xbox Live GOLD accounts and do not include silver accounts. I can't find numbers for silver accounts.

silver accounts are free so thats not a subscription.
just because they say they have 10 million subscribers doesn't make it true.
and all those estimates are... just estimates. Its impossible to know the truth but I still believe its unlikely that there are more XL subscribers then ps3 owners.
and if you want to get technical the ones sitting in the retail stores are owned... by the store itself so they are owned lol(but we wont count that... just being funny).

Those are straight from the companies that produce them. As of January 2008 Sony says 10.5 million systems have been sold and Microsoft says they have 10 million paying subscribers to Xbox Live. Which, by the way, is 6 months earlier then there prediction for 10 million.
Keep in mind I'm not really biased towards any of the 2 systems. I don't own a ps3 or an xbox 360, though, if I purchased either I'd be inclined to buy a 360 moreso because of some of potential for Indie games on Xbox Live.
I'm a wii owner myself and enjoy and the retro gaming i get to do with it.
As a final sales note as an example of how bad ps3 sales are (can't compare console sales really of Xbox 360 and ps3 due to time delay in release) but the Wii has 20.3 million consoles sold as of January 1 2008. Double that of the ps3. Sony's downfall was in being so arrogant that they believed people would buy there system at any cost on the first day due to the brand name even with a weak launch title list.

I know a couple people with a PS3 and they've played on it 3 or 4 times since they purchased it.

I own a wii myself and think its the best thing ever and it has alot of potential.
Does it make me weird if I own a 360 and hate halo games but dont own a ps3 and love final fantasy games?
(ps.my brother owns a ps3 so I can play it when ever just saying)

I know someone who bought a 360 and never played it. Just wanted all the systems because he thought it looked cool.
what does that have to do with anything? lol

There are plenty of good reasons to play a 360 other than Halo (personally I hate the franchise.)
As for Final Fantasy, it's been going down hill ever since they released "X-2". There was a point in time when Square promised no sequels but now they're milking the franchise for everything it has. There are like 2 sequels for Final Fantasy VII (a horrible game alone) and FFXII wasn't that great at all. I'd say I regret not buying ps3 just for FFXIII but I know it'll be crap as well even if it looks good.
As for buying systems for little use. . .When xbox came out I bought it exclusively for Fable which didn't come out for another 2 years. . .I only ever played 2 games on it. Fable and Mortal Kombat. Neither of which lasted a long time.

Point, no really good games for it. The people that buy it or just doing it for the blu-ray.

I didnt like FFVII that much. But it was really popular for its story not because it was a great game. FFXII was one of my favorites because of the new attack system. I cant wait for FFXIII. FFX-2 was stupid as hell but it was fun doing the dress sphere lvling up(thought that was a cool concept to bad they messed it up).

Pure hit the nail on the head. As far as Blu-Ray goes a lot of people bought it because it was a cheap blu-ray player. Everyone I know that purchased it did so because they wanted blu-ray.

Personally I was a Sega man in the original console wars. Still really mad at AT&T because of that. Being a Sega man, I have now switched to Nintendo, their long time competitor. Why you ask? Well, for several reasons.
1. Nintendo has become the multiplayer game platform over it's last few generations of systems. (online multiplayer isn't what I mean by this, I mean having a whole bunch of people sitting in your living room and playing games)
2. Nintendo has honored their long time competitor by signing new games from their software dept., and even putting Sega roms on their WII.. rocking!
3. Nintendo is/has been focused more on new fun ways to play games, and carrying out long standing series in a good form, instead of just pumping out another version of the same game with better graphics and a higher sticker price.
EDIT: speaking of Blu-ray, who do you think will win that battle them, or HDDVD?
Personally I think Blu-Ray will win, but not for a lOOOOOOOng time

I own all three, personally i can't stand microsoft anymore, i had to have my 360 repalced 3 times already. I've yet yo have a problem with my ps3 or wii. If i had to vote on which one liked best it would have to be wii, nintendo did something totally differen't unlike sony or microsoft, which only beefed up there ps2 and xbox. The nunchuk style controllers did it for me.

That is indeed the one downfall of the 360. . .Sony of course had a powercord melting problem, too.

Playstation 3 has better exclusives, free online play, blu ray winning the format wars, and doesn't break down as much as the 360.

Except a lot of exclusives for playstation also went multiplatform because of the weak playstation sales. I know I read somewhere that most games game companies except a certain % of console owners to purchase a game, however, if that same percent picked it up for the playstation, due to much weaker sales, the company would end up making little to no profit.

Same thing with 360, they have exclusives also and take alot of other games from playstation for example look at the original xbox, it had what? 15 games exclusive to it and everything else was taken from nintendo or sony . That's why i like the wii so much they have pretty much all there own game except for a few now they just need more games.

Oh man, console wars are always fun. :P The bottom line is that everyone has their opinion and I'm sure everyone will stick to it because who WANTS to be wrong? Personally, I think the Xbox 360 is the best console out right now. I used to love PS2 and didn't own an Xbox til I got my 360 last November. I always played Wii and 360 at a friend's house and Wii got really boring and childish REALLY fast. Since then I thought 360 was definitely the winner in this argument.
As for the PS3, no one anywhere around where I live has one so I've never really played it besides in Best Buy or other stores. I guess its not that great considering NO ONE I know or know of has one. Also with games like Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, and Gears of War under its belt, its hard for me not to love the 360 the most.

i have a 360 and a ps3
both are good in their own ways
for instance xbox360 owns ps3 in everyway with first person shooters
but ps3 is a lot better than 360 for sports games such as madden and baseball games, racing games ect.
and wiis are ghey as hell, their childish and do get old quite fast..-_-

Maybe that's the majority of wii targeted games but that's how every system is, really. The xbox360 may have Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 and Gears of War but it also sports such titles as Viva Pinata.
I will admit, Xbox360 is an amazing shooter system, though, to be honest it's completely redundant when the PC is the ultimate shooter platform, where as the Wii sports party games for a bunch of people like Mario Party and Wii sports. It also comes with big franchise hits like Zelda, Metroid, soon to be Super Smash Brothers Brawl (1 week from today!) and fire emblem.
There are also some darker titles like Resident Evil and No More Heroes.

Have any of you actually seen the Wii commercials? A bowling team of old people playing Wii sports? A bunch of people frantically swinging their arms at the screen while everyone cheers? First of all, one of my friends has a Wii and I've played it many many times. I've never stood up and went crazy about any game, nor did anyone else.
Also, I don't see how anyone likes the "nunchuk" controllers, unless of course you're a ninja. Its so annoying to use those things, they aren't very accurate at all.
"Wii would like to play" Oh yeah? Well I wouldn't. As a matter of a fact, I don't think I've ever see those 2 asian dudes actually play. Liars.
As for the PS3, I finally got to see and play on one at a friends house the other day. Still completely convinced that its not even in the same ballpark as the 360. I think theres some people that don't like the 360 for the sole fact that EVERYONE has one. Theres people out there that probably don't want to be like everyone else so they get a different console and say they love it. Ok we get it, you're a non-conformist rebel. Awesome. The fact of the matter is, there is a reason that so many people have the 360: Because it kicks a whole lotta ass. Bottom line.
LOL @ 360 being the best console that’s why its being outsold more than 6-1 by the ps3 and the reason the exclusives from ps3 went to Microsoft was not to make a profit (because all the exclusives for ps3/ multi platform games are ported over from building it on the ps3 engine because ports from 360 to ps3 just straight up suck) it was the huge amount of money bill gates offered the developers to save his sorry arse console, xbox made a huge mistake with the 360 they rushed it and had shitty technology to back it up so they only reason 360 stayed ahead for as long as it did was because mr gates was buying up all the game developers and refusing to let them make games for ps3 so it shows how much of a threat ps3 was to him as for a wii LOL that’s not a console if I wanted to play kid like games with what they offer i'd play my snes as the graphics are no different only difference is back then them games were fresh and something new, its the same old Nintendo lets make mario do everything from driving to cooking
as for halo the first game was a classic the rest just f'in suck

Those are the commercials for the general games - Wii commercials revolve around a specific game or set of games. One set of commercials focused around Metroid Prime 3 when it came out and it was a bunch of very young people playing.
You're right - You don't need to run around and swing frantically but it's definatly more fun to go all out. If i'm bowling I'd rather enact a real bowling motion, for example, then the more than sufficient flick of the wrist.
